How we handle your information

Privacy Policy

Bathurst Village Market

Your privacy, in plain English

We are a neighbourhood food store first. We collect very little information, we use it only to serve you, and we never sell it. This page explains — in ordinary language, not legal jargon — exactly what happens to your information when you visit this website, call us, or place a delivery or catering order.

This policy covers bathurstvillagemarket.com and the personal information we handle at our store at 5988 Bathurst St., North York, ON M2R 1Z1. It is written to meet our obligations under Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

At a glance

The short version

No tracking

No Google Analytics, no advertising pixels, no third-party trackers. We do not build profiles of the people who visit this site.

No cookies

Our website sets no cookies of its own. Even our fonts and images are served from our own server, so simply reading these pages does not call out to other companies.

Never sold

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information — to anyone, for any price. It is used to serve you and nothing else.

1. What we collect on this website

Very little. This is a plain, static website: there is no online ordering, no customer accounts and no payment processing on it.

  • Information you choose to give us. We do not run a contact form on this site. If you want to reach us, you call, or you come in. Whatever you tell us that way — your name, phone number, delivery address, what you would like to order — is used only to answer you or to fill your request.
  • Basic server logs. Like every website, our web host automatically records technical details each time a page is requested: the IP address it was requested from, the browser type, which page was asked for, and the date and time. This is used to keep the site running and secure. We do not use it to identify you or to follow you around the web.

2. Cookies, analytics and advertising

We do not use them. This website sets no cookies of its own, runs no analytics software, and carries no advertising or social-media tracking pixels — no Google Analytics, no Meta or Facebook pixel, nothing of the kind. Fonts, images and scripts are all hosted on our own server rather than loaded from third parties, so reading these pages does not quietly report your visit to anyone else.

There is one exception, and we would rather tell you about it plainly than bury it — the map on our Contact page.

3. The Google map on our Contact page

Our Contact page includes an embedded Google map so you can find the store and get directions. That map is loaded from Google. When the page opens, Google receives your IP address and may set its own cookies in your browser. That is governed by Google’s privacy policy, not by ours, and we have no access to whatever Google collects there.

If you would rather not load it, you can skip that page entirely — we are at 5988 Bathurst St., North York, ON M2R 1Z1, and you are always welcome to simply call (416) 650-0684 for directions.

4. Links to Facebook and Instagram

Our footer links to our Facebook and Instagram pages. Those are ordinary links — nothing from those platforms is embedded in our pages and nothing is tracked while you are on our site. Once you click through, that platform’s own privacy policy takes over.

5. We do not operate online accounts

This website does not create customer accounts, does not keep a shopping cart, does not process payments and never asks you for a password. If a page anywhere ever asks you for a “Bathurst Village Market password”, it is not us — please do not enter one.

6. Orders, delivery and catering

Orders are taken in the store and over the telephone, never on this website.

  • Delivery orders. We take your name, phone number and delivery address, because we cannot deliver without them. We keep that only as long as we need it to complete the delivery and to keep our ordinary business records.
  • Catering enquiries. We take your name, contact details, the date and place of your event, and what you would like served.
  • Payment. Payment is taken in the store or on delivery through our payment terminal. Card details go to our payment processor — your full card number is never seen or stored by us, and never touches this website.

7. How we use your information

  • To answer your question or return your call.
  • To prepare, pack and deliver an order you placed.
  • To plan and fulfil a catering booking.
  • To run the store and meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations.

That is the entire list. We do not profile you, we do not make automated decisions about you, and we do not send marketing email from this website.

8. Who else can see it

  • Our web host, which stores this website and its server logs.
  • Our delivery staff, who need your address to bring your order to your door.
  • Our payment processor, for card transactions made in store or on delivery.
  • Professional advisors or authorities, but only where Canadian law actually requires it of us.

Nobody else. We never sell, rent or trade your personal information, and we never hand it over for someone else’s marketing.

9. How long we keep it

Only as long as it is genuinely needed. An enquiry handled over the phone leaves nothing behind once it is answered. Sales, delivery and catering records are kept for as long as Canadian tax and business law requires us to keep them, and are then destroyed securely.

10. How we protect it

The whole website is served over an encrypted HTTPS connection. Information you give us by phone or in person is kept to the people who need it to do their job. No system anywhere is perfect, but we take reasonable and appropriate measures to protect what you trust us with — and because we collect so little in the first place, there is very little to expose.

11. Children

This website is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

12. Your rights under Canadian law

Under PIPEDA you have the right to:

  • ask what personal information we hold about you, and receive a copy of it;
  • ask us to correct anything that is inaccurate or incomplete;
  • withdraw your consent to our use of it (bearing in mind that, for example, we cannot deliver an order without an address);
  • complain — to us first, and, if you are not satisfied with our answer, to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

To exercise any of these, simply call us or come in and ask for the person responsible for privacy. We will respond within 30 days, as PIPEDA requires.

13. Changes to this policy

If we ever change how we handle your information — for instance, if we one day add online ordering to this website — we will update this page and change the date at the bottom. We will not make a quiet change and hope you do not notice.
